During recruiting, we strongly recommend you make it a practice to call coaches of your top target teams. Making contact on the phone is much more personal than an email, and will allow you to make a strong impact with the coaches and teams you are interested in.
That first call to a college coach can be a difficult one to make. It helps to do some research before you do and write out a script so you have an idea of what you want to say. Here you will find scripts to practice with. Try to eliminate the number of pauses, ummm’s and to make sure you are comfortable. You want to sound natural, energetic and engaged despite your nervousness. Have your parents, or a friend play the role of ‘coach’.
